Born in northern Iraq and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, Marsileen brings a strong commitment to helping others to her role as Intake and Legal Support Specialist at McGill Law. 

Her interest in the legal field is deeply personal. In 2014, members of her Yezidi community faced genocide at the hands of ISIS in Iraq, forcing members of her own family to flee the country. Seeing the injustice faced by her community, and the lack of accountability that followed for many of those responsible, inspired Marsileen to pursue work where she could help amplify underrepresented voices and support people who need to be heard. 

Marsileen has worked in customer service since she was 16 and previously held positions with two law firms, including a role similar to her work in intake and legal support today. She earned both a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences and a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. 

As an Intake and Legal Support Specialist, Marsileen is often one of the first people someone speaks with when they contact McGill Law. She understands that reaching out to a law firm can happen at a difficult point in someone’s life and wants each person she speaks with to feel comfortable, heard, and reassured about taking that first step. 

Marsileen was drawn to McGill Law’s women centered workplace and the opportunity to be part of a team focused on helping people move toward a better place in their lives. 

Her commitment to connecting with others also extends into her community. Marsileen volunteered with Lincoln Literacy for two and a half years, teaching English to adults and building relationships with her students, an experience she found especially rewarding. 

Outside of work, Marsileen enjoys playing volleyball and pickleball with friends, traveling, watching movies and anime, reading, and spending time with her orange cat, Kiki. An avid collector, she collects everything from postcards and books to Lego sets, perfumes, and keychains. 

Having lived in four countries, Marsileen has plenty of stories to tell and can happily talk about nearly anything, especially movies, sports, travel, animals, books, and science.
