Do not speak negatively about your child’s parent in front of your child.
We all know this, but it's easy to forget. Children thrive when they have good feelings and relationships with both parents after a divorce or separation.
Often, children feel that they are a part of and a reflection of both parents. When you discredit a child’s parent, they may interpret that you are also criticizing them. This can create low self-esteem, depression, and negative self-perception such as “I’m bad,” especially if both parents speak harmfully about one another.
So, even when the low is so unjustifiably LOW, go so incredibly HIGH for your children.
Create a support system, seek therapy, ask a trusted friend to listen when you need to vent and remember: you are not alone.
You've got this. We're here for you.
